When you run a restaurant you are going to want to make sure that your customers have a great experience and want to return. But what is that makes diners happy with the experience that they have had?
Some may say that it is all about the food, particularly the quality and the taste, whilst others may say that the service that they have received is going to stand out.
But which one is it? The answer might not be as clear as you may think.
Why food is important
There are a variety of reasons why people choose to eat out at a restaurant. Some may go there for the atmosphere, some to spend time with friends and some simply because they don’t want to cook or wash up at home.
If there is one reason why people don’t go to restaurants, it is for poor quality food. One of the biggest factors that makes people head to a restaurant is because they trust that they are going to get the best food.
If food doesn’t taste good, then chances are that you won’t want to eat there again. After all, why would you pay money for food that you don’t want to eat? The answer is, you won’t.
Why service is important
Whilst great tasting food is important for any restaurant to focus on, there are plenty of people who would say that all the amazing dishes in the world are not going to make up for poor service.
As a diner, you will remember how food tastes, and if it wasn’t completely up to scratch, however, there is a good chance you may still try the restaurant again if they had great service and you felt that it may have just been a one-off. After all, everyone makes mistakes.
The same cannot be said if you have had a poor experience of service. As consumers we expect to be treated with respect and with care, and this is particularly true when it comes to eating out.
Which is most important?
The answer to this is not as simple as it may seem. Food is vital for the reputation of a restaurant to grow. If you eat some really delicious food, then chances are that you are going to want to tell your friends about it, and they are going to try it for themselves.
However, service is also key. Mistakes can happen in the kitchen, even in the best kitchens. How a restaurant deals with this mistake and rectifies it can make or break whether or not those customers come back for another time.
The thing here to remember is that you need to focus on both service and food. It can be hard to balance both, however, with some focus and determination, we are sure that you are going to get exactly where you want to be as a restaurant.
